B horror story...
"My accident happened on February
25th, 2005 in Calgary, Alberta. I was t-boned
by a
school bus that ran a red light. My car
was tossed into a helicopter spin and landed
one
block away. My chiropractor estimated
approximately 38 severe sprains in my back
(one month after the accident), never mind all
of the problems internally and in my
neck, shoulders, jaw and hips.
My Claims Adjuster, Debra Finlay of Peace Hills Insurance
(at the time of my accident)
cancelled a scheduled IMC (Independent Medical
Consultant) twice during my 21
treatments and then forced
me to wait over 3 weeks to see to their IME
(Independent
Medical Examiner). Their IME, Doctor Jason Giroux, of NRCS (at the time of my
accident) advised that I no longer required physical therapy or chiropractic care
without properly examining me. In August 2005, my
claims adjuster, Debra Finlay of
Peace Hills Insurance
(at the time of my accident) went back to my physical
therapist, Roma Oleksyn of Lindsay Park Sport Physiotherapy
(at the time of my
accident) (who my insurer cut me off from in April 2005) and requested an
update on
my physical condition.
To my shock and dismay, Roma Oleksyn of Lindsay Park
Sport Physiotherapy
(at the time of my accident) filled
out the report without my
knowledge or an examination and
advised that I was back to pre-accident
health. My
insurance company, Peace Hills
Insurance
(at the time of my accident) refused
letters
from my doctor and my chiropractor which stated that I was not back to
pre-accident health and
required more care. My insurance company, Peace Hills
Insurance
(at the time of my accident) was
able to cut me off after 21 treatments with
the help of Dr. Jason Giroux of NRCS
(at the time of my accident) and the help of
physical therapist, Roma Oleksyn of Lindsay Park Sport Physiotherapy
(at the time
of my accident).
I was unable to sit, stand, or walk for
approximately 1.5 years without extreme 10/10
pain. Two and a half years later, I am 1000%
better than the first year but I am
still
about 40% away from being back to pre-accident
health. I am still living with the
constant pain and
still paying for treatments without the help
of my insurance company,
Peace Hills Insurance
(at the time of the accident)."

MPI horror story...
"I
believe the no fault insurance is crap. We had
an accident about two years ago.
The stop sign had been ripped out of the
ground and not being familiar with the
area I went through the intersection. We were
hit by a half ton truck. The force of
the collision sent our cavalier spinning
around 2.5 times.
Our no fault insurance means there was no
investigation into the speed this guy
was
traveling or that the stop sign was missing.
The city refused to accept
responsibility
for the sign being gone as they had no reports
about it. Upon asking the area
residents they indicated the sign had been
gone for weeks and this was the third
accident at the location. (The following
Tuesday I was showing a friend where the
accident was and the city was there replacing
the stop sign).
To make a long story short my wife has had
health problems ever since the accident
as she was in the passenger seat and took the
full force of the impact. She has been
unable to work and MPI only provided her with
12 visits to the chiropractor. If this
was
anywhere else in the industrialized world we
would have been able to sue the other
driver MPI and the city. There would have been
an investigation into the speed of the
truck and my wife and I would not have lost
one of our two incomes."
Thank you MPI for everything!

MPI horror story...
"My back hurts everyday sometimes its
to the point that its crippling & MPI
doesn't
even acknowledge it, yet they did for
the first 9 months & then wrote me off
because
it would have cost them money &
responsibility to retrain me or help me with
further
treatment, So, I had to go out &
retrain myself and suffer this torment because
I
have a little boy to care for . The way MPI
treated me was so awful, that it could be
criminal already. They paid $5,000
approx. for the first 9 months & then they
referred
me to their doctors & physio and paid them $9000 approx for 3 weeks of
treatment
out of their own facilities , which
basically consisted of working out in a gym
for 8 hrs
a day unbelievable.... I wasn't able
to complete the 3 weeks because the pain was
unbearable. The medication their doctor
prescribed me for the pain made me
extremely
aggressive & did nothing for my pain MPI
may not pay for pain & suffering
but I
still go through pain & suffering
everyday. They terminated my benefits."

MPI horror story...
"Saw your letter to the Ed. in the
winnipeg sun. Anyway...
I have a real problem with the fact that it is
mandatory to have auto insurance while
having only one insurer to choose from. To me
that seems like an anti-trust situation.
It should be illegal. I can't understand why
no one sees this.
Just when 'no fault' came in, I was
rear-ended, it was 50/50. I had to pay.
This just
hurts my brain. Since then I would pay
anything to insure my car with anyone
other
than MPI."

MPI horror

"My
situation happened some time ago, probably
eight or ten years ago. I
rolled
my 1990 4 cyl. mustang in the late winter
and the Selkirk Claim Center wrote it off.
As I had done considerable repairs to it,
I submitted receipts for additional
compensation. I never met the
adjuster and as all communication was by
phone,
I cannot recall a name.
They
valued my car at $1200, less my $500
deductible, I was offered $700. I
was
so insulted, I withdrew my claim and went
to the Plessis Rd. compound and
retrieved the car. As I knew which
parts were good, I spent the summer
shopping
for another similar car, eventually
purchasing a 1989 4 cyl. As it was
in need of
some repairs I was able to buy it for
$2100. After doing those repairs, I
went to
register it in the fall. The tax
department had a minimum value of $3000,
on which
I was required to pay the taxes.
My
subsequent phone call to MPI for an
explanation for the difference, got me
an
answer that they were separate departments
and did not use the same criteria
for
value. I am still frustrated that a
later model, identical car, with extensive
repairs
could be worth $1800 less, six months
earlier.
I am
also dissatisfied that the Sales Tax dept.
would not even consider accepting
my honesty regarding the purchase price.
Their attitude is, if you don't agree
with
them, you're a liar."
